Crowns & Onlays

What are Crowns & Onlays

Crowns completely cover a damaged or weakened tooth, restoring its shape, strength, and appearance. Onlays are similar but cover only a portion of the tooth, used when there's extensive decay or damage that doesn't require a full crown. Both are custom-made from materials like porcelain or ceramic to match natural teeth and provide durable restoration.

Types of Crowns & Onlays at our office:

  • Ceramic Crowns: Ceramic crowns are durable, aesthetically pleasing restorations that can significantly impact the preservation of a tooth. Custom-made using ceramic, they are crafted to seamlessly blend with your natural teeth, offering both longevity and cosmetic enhancement.
  • Porcelain Crowns: Porcelain crowns offer durable and natural-looking solutions for various dental needs. They are custom-made to match the color and shape of your natural teeth, providing both aesthetic enhancement and functional restoration.
  •  Onlays: Onlays are more conservative than crowns. They cover only a portion of the tooth's surface, typically the biting surface or one or more cusps. Onlays are used when a significant portion of the tooth is intact but needs reinforcement due to decay or damage.

Benefits of Crowns & Onlays:
  • Restoration of Tooth Structure: Both crowns and onlays restore the shape, size, and function of damaged or decayed teeth.
  • Strength and Durability: They provide strength and durability to teeth weakened by extensive decay, large fillings, or fractures.
  • Protection: Crowns and onlays protect the underlying tooth from further damage and strengthen it against chewing forces.
  • Aesthetic Improvement: They are custom-made to match the natural color and appearance of your teeth, enhancing smile aesthetics.
  • Longevity: With proper care, crowns and onlays can last for many years, providing a long-term solution for tooth restoration.
  • Preservation of Tooth Structure: Compared to traditional fillings, they require less removal of healthy tooth structure, preserving more of the natural tooth.
  • Versatility: Crowns and onlays can be used to restore both anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth, offering versatile solutions for different dental needs.
